Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Nara Lokesh, the Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, and Human Resources of Andhra Pradesh state (India).
During their conversation, Rustam Minnikhanov emphasised that relations between Russia and India are a privileged strategic partnership, and the two countries’ leaders maintain an ongoing dialogue. He recalled that it was a great honour for the Republic of Tatarstan to host the Indian delegation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BRICS Summit in Kazan.
The Head of the Republic highlighted the successful development of economic ties with India. In 2025, according to the report, trade turnover between the Republic of Tatarstan and India reached $353 million. Last year, bilateral cooperation also turned into institutional development: the Consulate General of India opened in Kazan, and the republic of Tatarstan trade representative position was established in India.
Particular attention at the meeting was paid to humanitarian and educational cooperation. Around 1,300 students from India study in the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Centre for Developing Relations between the Two Republics was established under the Assembly of the Peoples of Tatarstan.
Rustam Minnikhanov spoke about the Russia-India Business Forum, which was first held in 2025, and invited Nara Lokesh to participate in the “TIME: Russia-India. Mutual Efficiency” Business Forum, scheduled for 15-16 October, 2026.
The parties also discussed cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and the state of Andhra Pradesh, where a cooperation agreement is already in effect.
The meeting emphasised the willingness of both sides to strengthen multifaceted ties and open up new opportunities for joint work in key sectors of the economy and education.
