According to RIA Novosti, the Indian authorities have approved new customs regulations that increase the amount of duty-free personal items that can be brought into the country by tourists and residents.
As a result, the limit for tourists has increased from 15,000 to 25,000 rupees (approximately 276 dollars at the current exchange rate). Any foreigner entering the country without a tourist visa can bring personal items worth a maximum of 75,000 rupees (approximately 830 dollars). The same amount is set for local residents (an increase from 50,000 rupees).
The new rules also impose a limit on the weight of gold and platinum items imported into India. Women can import up to 40 grams of items duty-free, while men can import up to 20 grams.
