India is emerging as one of the most promising destinations for expanding exports of agricultural products from the Republic of Tatarstan. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan, exports of agricultural and food products to India amounted to USD 60.9 million in January-August 2026. As a result, by the end of August, the figure had already exceeded the total value of exports for the whole of 2025, which stood at USD 56.4 million. By comparison, Tatarstan exported USD 109.2 million worth of agricultural and food products to India in 2024.
Sunflower oil accounts for the bulk of these exports. In the first eight months of 2026, exports of sunflower oil to India reached USD 58.8 million, an increase of 2.2 times compared with the same period in 2025. Tatarstan also supplies the Indian market with pulses and other agricultural and food products.
Further growth prospects are linked to expanding the range of exported products and increasing the share of higher value-added goods. Potential areas include packaged vegetable oil, deep-processed oilseed and pulse products, confectionery, juices, beverages and other ready-to-eat food products.
Another important area of cooperation is the establishment of joint production facilities and processing projects with Indian partners. This includes the development of packaging and production of finished goods, as well as cooperation with India’s agro-industrial and food-processing clusters. There is also significant potential for technological cooperation, including the supply of equipment and technologies for grain and oilseed storage and processing, feed production, and the automation and digitalisation of agricultural production.
Practical opportunities for expanding exports and industrial cooperation will be discussed at the session “Exports of Agricultural Products from the Republic of Tatarstan to India”, which will take place on 16 October from 12.00 to 13.30 as part of the 2nd Russian-Indian Business Forum "TIME: Tatarstan Initiative Mutual Efficiency". The session is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Participants will address key issues related to Tatarstan agricultural companies entering the Indian market, including product and documentation requirements, government support measures, international payments, logistics and distribution channels. Particular attention will be paid to direct engagement between Russian and Indian companies. The discussion is expected to provide a platform for establishing concrete B2B contacts, concluding export deals and developing investment projects.
The forum will also feature an exhibition showcasing Tatarstan companies operating in the dairy, oil and fat, food and confectionery sectors, as well as producers of grain and oilseed crops. In parallel, plans are under consideration for a separate round table on Russian-Indian cooperation in education and research in the agro-industrial sector.
“India is already an important market among the promising destinations for Tatarstan’s agricultural products, and the current export dynamics demonstrate the potential for further growth. At the same time, our objective is not simply to increase export volumes, but to broaden the range of products by expanding supplies of deep-processed goods and finished food products. Another important area could be the implementation of joint projects with Indian partners – from the processing and packaging of agricultural raw materials to technological cooperation. The TIME forum session will provide an opportunity to discuss these prospects directly with Indian importers, processors and investors and move from general dialogue towards concrete projects,” said Marat Zyabbarov, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan.
